Bangladesh regulator to allow suppliers to assign Export Bills to offshore financiers

The country of Bangladesh is getting closer to support open account cross border receivables purchase structures - but we are not there yet. 


In an important and positive move for the industry and suppliers servicing global supply chains (predominantly Europe), the regulator has approved offshore financier purchase of bills, for orders contracted on a documentary collection basis.  



Bangladesh Exports

Bangladesh shipped an estimated US$42.2 billion worth of goods, predominantly textile-related to Europe.

The top 10 exports account for 96.4% of the overall value of shipments.

  4. Footwear: $936.4 million (2.2%)

  5. Paper yarn, woven fabric: $641.6 million (1.5%)

  6. Fish: $525.5 million (1.2%)

  7. Headgear: $302.6 million (0.7%)

  8. Leather/animal gut articles: $293.7 million (0.7%)

  9. Raw hides, skins not furskins, leather: $166.5 million (0.4%)

  10. Tobacco, manufactured substitutes: $105.4 million (0.2%)
